Registering for the ACT When is the ACT being offered at Ross? When Should I Take The ACT? During your Junior Year is optimal. When do you need the scores back for applications and scholarship contention? Scores normally take 3-8 weeks to receive in the mail. If you choose to take the optional writing portion, scores will take 5-8 weeks to receive in the mail. If you are unsure about these dates, make sure that you are taking the ACT early enough to leave your options open.

Why is Junior Year Optimal? You probably have completed much of the coursework corresponding to the material covered on the ACT by the spring of your Junior Year. ACT scores will arrive in time to decide what courses to take in your senior year to best prepare you for college. College will know of your interest and have your scores in time. You will have scores in time to decide which colleges to visit. You can retake the ACT if necessary to bring up your scores.

Test Information Release Test given in December, April and June allow the option to pay an additional $19 to receive your test scores and release the test questions and answers. If you take the optional writing test, you will also receive a copy of the prompt, the scoring rubric, and the scores assigned by the two raters for your prompt. This can be a great study tool if you intend on retaking the test.

Test Options and Choices ACT (No Writing) - $35.00 Includes reports for you, your high school, and up to four college choices (if valid codes are provided when you register). ACT Plus Writing - $50.50 Includes reports for you, your high school, and up to four college choices (if valid codes are provided when you register). The $15.50 Writing Test fee is refundable, on written request, if you are absent on test day or switch to the ACT (No Writing) before testing begins.

Test Options and Choices 5th and 6th college choices - add $11.00 each Requested online before the test date; refundable on written request, if you do not test. Find out how much it costs to send your scores after you test. Late registration fee - add $22.00 For registration or test date change submitted during the late period for a national test date. Standby Testing - add $43.00 Refunded if you are denied admission to the test center on test day.

Test Options and Choices Test date change - add $21.00 For different date only if absent or unable to test on original date. If you request a test date change after the regular deadline for the new date, you must also add the late fee. You will be charged the full test fee for your new test date plus $21.00 ($43.00 if you register during the late period). Your test fee for the original test date will be promptly refunded. To Write or Not To Write? Taking the Writing Test provides you with two additional scores: a Writing Sub score and a Combined English/Writing Score. Does not affect your subject area score. Does not affect your Composite score. Not all colleges recommend or require the writing test. You can search your college’s recommendation at www.actstudent.org.

ACT Accommodations If you currently receive accommodations in school, you may submit documentation to support a request for one of the following: Center Testing #1: Standard Testing Time with Accommodations Center Testing #2: Extended Testing Time (50% time extension). Approved students taking the ACT (No Writing) have up to 5 hours total to work on all four multiple-choice tests at their own pace. Approved students taking the ACT Plus Writing have up to 5 hours and 45 minutes to complete all five tests. Both options include time for breaks between tests. Special Testing: Testing at school with extended time and alternate formats available—not as part of national or international testing at a test center.

Center Testing #1 Request this only if you can test at a regularly scheduled national test center under standard time limits and use either a regular type (10-pt.) or large type (18-pt.) test booklet, but require accommodations due to your disability. No details about any accommodations provided are reported. Examples include: assignment to a wheelchair-accessible room large type test booklet (18-pt.) marking responses in the test booklet permission for diabetics to eat snacks in the test room You must register for your preferred test date by the registration deadline. If you register online, print a copy of your admission ticket and mail it along with all of the following information in a written request. If you register by mail, include all of the following information in a written request with your completed registration folder and payment. Enclose written documentation from your school describing in detail the accommodations you normally receive in school. Explain your disability and accommodatons requested with detail so arrangements can be made. The name and phone number of a school official familiar with your current test accommodations.

Center Testing #2 Request this only if you can test at a regularly scheduled national test center and use either a regular type (10-pt.) or large type (18-pt.) test booklet, but require up to 50% more time due to your disability. If approved, you will be allowed up to 5 hours total to work on the multiple-choice tests at your own pace. If you are taking the ACT Plus Writing, you will be allowed 5 hours and 45 minutes total to work on all five tests. To apply for this form of testing for the first time, you and a school official must complete and sign the Application for ACT Extended Time National Testing. The application explains the eligibility criteria, documentation required, registration deadlines, and how to request a test date change or re-register if you were previously approved. Your application cannot be approved without all required supporting documentation.

Special Testing Special Testing is designed for students who: normally use more than time-and-a-half for tests (or use extended time only on writing tests) in school, or require testing over multiple days, or normally use alternate test formats such as Braille, cassettes, DVDs, or a reader; or a computer or scribe for essays, and/or alternate response modes, (such as responding orally) or are testing at an international test center and cannot use a regular type (10-point) booklet or test with standard time limits, or need accommodations the test center cannot provide. If you can test with time-and-a-half and paper formats, you should apply for Center Testing #2 instead.

Testing Day Arrive BY 8am. You will not be admitted after test booklets have been distributed. Only bring materials you need. You will not be permitted to bring other items into the room with you.
