Remote Service Switches Reconnect/Disconnect Meters

Meters with Remote Service Switches (RC/DC) Georgia Power currently has 95,000 RC/DC meters in operation In February of 2013 over 20% of 41,000 service orders were completed with RC/DC meters Georgia Power plans to expand the number of meters as conditions warrant

Importance of Remote Service Switches (RC/DC) Safety Access Flexibility Efficiencies for Field Resources Efficiencies for Back Office Operations Customer Service

Importance of Remote Service Switches (RC/DC) Safety Disconnect/Reconnect services located in known dangerous areas Avoid dangerous animals Fewer truck rolls (less potential for vehicle accidents)

Importance of Remote Service Switches (RC/DC) Access Disconnect/Reconnect services located inside buildings Behind locked gates Downtown high rise buildings Dangerous Animals

Importance of Remote Service Switches (RC/DC) Flexibility Quicker follow up on weather moratoriums Quicker follow up on delays related to holidays Example: Unable to disconnect delinquent service for three consecutive days. Capability to follow up on accounts previously scheduled for disconnect on the fourth day. Provide faster service to new occupants moving into location previously disconnected for non-pay

Importance of Remote Service Switches (RC/DC) Efficiencies for Field Operations Fewer truck rolls Ability to concentrate on wider range of service orders Fewer days of productivity lost to inclement weather Ability to reassign field resources (storm duty, walk down areas of concern) Less need to follow up on non-pay disconnects

Importance of Remote Service Switches (RC/DC) Efficiencies for Back Office Operations Ability to automate some back office processes Ability to more quickly respond to any issues related to non-pay disconnects Fewer orders to re-dispatch Better after hours response CSS reviews eligible to cut criteria. If accounts meets, determines RC/DC meter, order to disconnect is automatically routed to open switch in meter (at designated time periods)

Importance of Remote Service Switches (RC/DC) Better Customer Service Quicker response time to restore service due to non-pay disconnects Quicker response time to provide service to new occupants Quicker response time for property management accounts Better after hours response time

Importance of Remote Service Switches (RC/DC) Future Better level of control for unauthorized use Better service to managed accounts Enables prepay service

Prepaid Electric Service Why prepay – Why now AMI system enables network integration of prepay application “Deposit replacement” programs enable consumers to manage their own cash in challenging economic times Utilities & consumers can experience lower operating costs Consumers need to be able to pay when they want, where they want, as funds are available Prepay can empower consumers, reduce complaints & raise customer satisfaction

Prepaid Electric Service Established cross functional team to determine requirements pilot with PayGo Customer Service Revenue Accounting CSS Metering AMI Operations IT Pricing& Rates Current Strategy – Pilot hosted by PayGo utilizing their platform integrating with Sensus network, MDM and CSS Use of PayGo web page, VRU, MDM Interface with GP MDM (IEE) for meter data download interface with CSS for payments download

Prepaid Electric Service Pilot involving GP employees to test PayGo technology has been successful Utilized 20 employees across wide geographical area Tested usage, payment and account review process Ran pilot for 8 months Next step is testing disconnect/reconnect process Software and hardware Wide geographical area Payment methods
