Body Planes Divides the body into anterior and posterior sections Divides the body into equal right and left sections Divides the body horizontally into superior and inferior sections

Quadrants

Directional Terms Distal- away from point of attachment to the trunk Proximal- Near the point of attachment to the trunk Medial- Middle or near the medial lane of the body Lateral- To the side Inferior- Below another structure Superior- Above another structure Anterior- The front side of the body Posterior- The back side of the body

Composition Cell System Tissue Organs

Body Cavities Cranial Cavity Dorsal Thoracic Cavity Diaphragm Spinal Cavity Abdominal Cavity Pelvic Cavity

Movement Terms Flexion- Decreasing angle at a joint Extension- Increasing angle at a joint Abduction- Movement away from midline Adduction- Movement towards the midline Pronation- Turning palms down Supination- Turning palms up Elevation- Raising shoulders/scapula Depression- Lowering shoulders/scapula Protraction- Action of bringing scapula away from midline Retraction- Action of bringing scapula towards midline Plantarflexion-Action of increasing angle at ankle (on toes) Dorsiflexion- Action of decreasing angle at ankle (on heels)

Movement Terms Inversion- Bringing heels in towards midline Eversion- Bringing heels away from midline Horizontal Adduction- Movement in the transverse plane toward midline Horizontal Abduction- Movement in transverse plane away from midline
