Organization Overview St. John Hospital and Medical Center, Detroit, MI Currently maintains nine area high school contracts for athletic training services Program highlights include: Annual high school physical program Practice and game day coverage Educational programs including first aid and CPR, concussion awareness, and nutritional programs
Site Supervisor Pat Blount, PT, MS, Director, Ambulatory Rehab Services Oversees operations of the 14 outpatient rehab satellites for both the East and West regions Oversees outpatient imaging services Experience with multiple expansion projects within outpatient rehab 20 year tenure with the system
Practicum Overview Market strategy expansion of the sports medicine program through the acquisition of two additional high school contracts Review of additional areas for program expansion in current or new market areas Secure personnel Quantify projected revenue secondary to downstream activities including urgent care and emergency department visits and physician office visits
Practicum Objectives Develop marketing strategy for sports medicine program expansion. Present to school athletic directors. Coordinate with physician liaison to secure physician coverage for schools and game days. Quantify data including downstream revenues and link to financial performance of program. Develop leadership skills associated with program development and market strategies, link to strategic goals. Identify related opportunities for community outreach and further market penetration.
Current Status Acquired two new high school contracts for the FY14 school year. Personnel secured for schools, orientation completed. Physician school coverage secured. Successful high school physicals program completed at eight locations. Prior year data tabulated, reviewed, and program financial status determined. 231 hours of practicum completed consisting of strategy meetings, marketing meetings, team meetings, research and class activities

Lessons Learned Application of LDR 660 - Strategic Planning principles via development of market expansion and penetration strategies. Application of LDR 640 – Finance principles via the quantification of related data into financial projections and revenue and program value. Application of LDR 630 - Organizational Culture coursework via the interactions with the athletic directors and educational organizations.
Next steps Seek and review feedback from the athletic directors and coaches at the conclusion of the fall sports season. Review outcomes from ACL pilot program; explore additional market penetration. Strategize expansion of the program to include the West region and additional schools. Explore service line opportunities for contribution to Orthopedic Center of Excellence.
