Permenter Middle School iLab Orientation

This is my third year at Permenter as the Librarian/Media Specialist. hello! I am Ms. Wilson This is my third year at Permenter as the Librarian/Media Specialist.

1. Let’s Talk about the iLab

The iLab is open from 7:30am-3:00pm Monday-Friday. iLab Hours The iLab is open from 7:30am-3:00pm Monday-Friday. Occasionally, the iLab may be closed for special events such as picture day, guest speakers, testing, etc.

iLab Expectations All students will enter the iLab quietly and remain quiet during their stay. All students will treat library materials with respect and return them promptly. NO backpacks are allowed in the library. IF you brought your backpack, please place it in the designated spot.

iLab Expectations Students will refrain from bringing food, drinks, candy, etc. into the library at ALL times--including activity periods. Students will use the library computers for school work such as research, presentations, and typing papers; NOT for chat rooms, games, emails, etc.

iLab Expectations Students coming in during class periods must have a pass from their teacher and sign in and out. No more than 2-3 students from the same class at a time. Limit 15 minutes. Sign in Sheet Example….

Taking Care of the Books Do NOT eat or drink around them. Do NOT draw or write in/on them. Do NOT fold the corner of the page down Do NOT tear the pages

Circulation Policies Students must have their school ID to check out books-- your ID with the barcode. Students may have two (2) books checked out at one time. Books are checked out for two (2) weeks and may be renewed once.

Lost or damaged books must be paid for in cash. Circulation Policies Lost or damaged books must be paid for in cash. Students with overdue books and/or fines will NOT be allowed to checkout additional books until their account is clear. **This includes books that were checked out last year and not returned!**

I’ve finished with my books.... Where do I put them? There is a cart labeled “Book Return” next to the circulation desk to leave your books on. Please leave them in a neat row on the shelf. DO NOT take books off of this cart!!

Suggestions... Is there a book(s) that you would like to see in the iLab? Do you have suggestions for more Makerspace materials? If so, fill out the google form on the webpage.

4 Makerspace in the iLab!!

What is Makerspace? “A makerspace is a place where students can gather to create, invent, tinker, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials.”

Makerspace We have lots of materials and tools for you to use in the Makerspace area. *Makey Makey *K’nex *Ozobots *Snap Circuits *Puzzles *Legos *Paper/stickers *Oragami *Tools *Coloring materials *Duct tape *Ribbon/string/beads *3D printer *3D Pen *Button Maker

When can students use the Makerspace area? The Makerspace area is open on Monday (Makerspace Mondays) and Friday (Fun Fridays). Students must have a MAKERSPACE pass from the teacher and can come during class time.

How do students use the Makerspace area? CHECK OUT Check out activity/items from the circulation desk. ENJOY Use the activity/item IN the iLab. CHECK IN Pack the activity/item up. Get ALL of the pieces! Take back to the circulation desk. You are expected to clean up after yourself!!

Fun Furniture We have lots of fun seating in the iLab. Help yourself...relax!! But, please sit appropriately! **There are also charging stations...you are responsible for whatever you plug in!!** If you move any chairs/seats/furniture--PLEASE put it back where you got it from before leaving!
