Who MUST Do ASW Starting 2014-2015 ASW is the Standard 6 measure for: Advanced Placement (AP) Arts Education Healthful Living & PE World Languages (International Baccalaureate)

How Growth Is Measured Growth is measured by: Student work Time-lapse Artifacts (TAs) submitted by teachers Ratings by content experts in a “blind review” process Ratings averaged over 3 years

ASW Process Overview Teacher receives Standard 6 rating Teacher verifies schedule & chooses objectives for each course Teacher collects student work TAs Teacher uploads evidence collection to online platform Reviewers “blind” rate evidence collections Teacher receives Standard 6 rating

Step 1: Verify Schedules & Rosters

Step 1a: Verify Schedules & Rosters

Step 1: Verify Schedules & Rosters

Step 1: Verify Schedules & Rosters

Random Course Selection Mid-late October: ASW system RANDOMLY chooses courses for evaluation. Teachers on semester schedule: classes selected for 1st semester, then later 2nd semester.

Step 2: Choose Objectives

Step 2: Choose Objectives Each strand MUST be represented 3 Strands

Choose Objectives Step 2: Class 1 Class 3 Choose 1 clarifying objective per class taught, 1 or more from each strand. Class 5 Class 4 Class 2

Step 3: Collect Artifacts Time-lapse Artifact (TA) Considerations Illustrates specific objective Sample type: Individual Student Work or Whole Class Work Collection Method From two points in time not in same lesson

Step 3: Collect Artifacts TA illustrates specific objective 5 ML 2.14: Uses standard symbols to notate rhythm, meter, pitch, and dynamics Uses TA must fit objective’s VERB.

Step 3: Collect Artifacts Sample type — choose either: Individual Student Work Whole Class Work Hint: pick method that best suits objective.

Step 3: Collect Artifacts Individual Student Work (Portfolios) Collect and keep 2 work samples: for each class member for a specific objective at 2 separate points in time not in the same lesson

Step 3: Collect Artifacts Whole Class Work Collect and keep 2 work samples: representing the entire class for a specific objective at 2 separate points in time not in the same lesson

Step 3: Collect Artifacts Collection Method: DIGITAL Max file size: 10MB

Step 4: Upload Artifacts

Step 4: Upload Artifacts

Step 5: Review & Rating Key points:

Step 5: Review & Rating Blind review by 2 reviewers The evidence shows that the student(s) can extensively… (insert objective text) The evidence shows that the student(s) can not… (insert objective text) The evidence shows that the student(s) can… (insert objective text) Do you see growth in this evidence? The evidence shows that the student(s) can partially… (insert objective text) Overall, based on all the evidence in this Timelapse Artifact which category rating do you assign? Does Not Meet Expected Growth Meets Expected Growth Exceeds Expected Growth Step 5: Review & Rating 5 ML 2.14: Uses standard symbols to notate rhythm, meter, pitch, and dynamics      Blind review by 2 reviewers If disagree, 3rd reviewer used 

1 5 4 3 2 Effectiveness Status 6 NC Educator Evaluation System Demonstrate Leadership Establish Environment Know Content Facilitate Learning Reflect on Practice Contribute to Academic Success 6 3 Rating Categories 5 Rating Categories Not Demonstrated Developing Proficient Accomplished Distinguished The rating categories used for Standards 1-5 are different from those used for Standard 6 because of the nature of the focus for the sixth standard (student growth data). The focus for Standards 1 through 5 for teachers is their skills, knowledge and behavior, whereas Standard 6 focuses on student growth outcomes. Click

3-Year Rolling Average Step 6: Standard 6 Meets Expected Growth Meets Ms. MT’s 3-year rolling average of growth data: Year 1 2014-2015 Year 2 2015-2016 Year 3 2016-2017 2014-15 Does Not Meet (Y 1) 2015-16 Meets (Y 2) + 2016-17 Meets (Y 3) Does Not Meet Ms. MT’s 3-year rolling average for 2014-2017: Meets Meets Standard 6 Meets Expected Growth
