Here are some examples of appositives: My brother's car, a sporty red convertible with bucket seats, is the envy of my friends. The chief surgeon, an expert in organ-transplant procedures, took her nephew on a hospital tour. (OWL at Purdue) Leo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby From The Great Gatsby: “It is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows…of men” (Fitzgerald 2). “The lawn started at the beach and ran toward the front door for a quarter of a mile, jumping over sun-dials and brick walks and burning gardens” (Fitzgerald 6).
