Which symbols do you recognise? What do they mean?

What does it mean to belong? Learning Objective Explore the uses symbols in expressing belonging.

How can symbols express belonging? Maria Christina Gomez cross = El Salvadorian cross. She set up an organisation to help women who suffered domestic abuse/were raped, she also visited rural villages to teach women how to read. She was abducted and murder, probably by the government. Since this time many crosses have been made and decorated with her story.

What is our school identity? Task What does the school badge mean? Think, Pair, Share Does it express the school motto and what it means to belong to Ian Ramsey? Together to grow, to learn, to serve Badge is used to identify members of the school (a shared identity). The motto is the shared message/shared purpose for all those in the school.

Our school identity Task Create a new badge for the academy. The new badge must express the schools values, history and motto Annotate the badge to explain what it means.

Explain at least two aspects of your badge. Our 5 core values are: Joy To bring joy and happiness into the life of others in all that we do. Hope To be positive in all we strive to achieve. Forgiveness To recognize that all of us make mistakes and that we must be able to learn from and move on from these. Wisdom To be honest and truthful to ourselves and others, so that we can learn from each other and grow in knowledge and understanding. Perseverance To always try our very best, even when things are tough and we feel that we cannot go on. Motto: ‘Together to learn, to grow to serve.’ (1 Peter 4:10) You must: Explain at least two aspects of your badge. Explain how these symbols link to the school motto and values
