Your expectations for the course Answer the questions: Today’s Objectives Introductions Your expectations for the course Answer the questions: What is ‘Systems Analysis? What does a Systems Analyst do’? Course Overview

Introduction - You…… Please tell me: Your name, year of study, hometown Career goal What do you think systems analysis is? What kinds of things does a systems analyst do?

What do systems analysts do? Business Needs Systems Analysis System Design Project Management Analyst Roles Programmers DBAs “Business” People Technical Solutions Interface with the ‘business’ to understand what needs to be accomplished; Manage the process of developing technical solutions; Design computer systems that meet the needs of the business.

Course Overview INFO 415 emphasizes systems analysis and design as an IT discipline and describes the role of the systems analyst in the development of computer-based information systems. The course introduces the student to key systems analysis tools and techniques. Subsequently, the student will apply them to a real-world business problem.  The course uses this project as the vehicle to put into practice tools and techniques related to problem and opportunity definition, requirements analysis and feasibility analysis.  This topics started in this course will be continued in INFO425 - System Design

Course Overview (cont) The Modern Systems Analyst Approaches to Systems Development The Systems Analyst as Project Manager Investigating System Requirements Modeling System Requirements Traditional Approach to Requirements Object Oriented Approach to Requirements Evaluating Alternatives for Requirements, Environment and Implementation
