STANDARDS AND LEARNING GOALS Priority Standards S7L5a I can describe ways in which species on earth have evolved due to natural selection. S7L5b I can recognize that changes in environmental conditions can affect the survival of both individuals and entire species. I can explain that physical characteristics of organisms have changed over time due to changing conditions. (e.g. Darwin’s finches and peppered moths of Manchester) S7L5c I can trace evidence that the fossil record provides evidence for the long history of changing life forms. I can trace evidence that fossil record in sedimentary rock provides evidence for the history of changing life form. STANDARDS AND LEARNING GOALS

INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES- (WORK SESSION) Key Vocabulary adaptation • evolution • natural selection WORKBOOK CHAPTER 6- each day in class and study or finish as homework Vocabulary enrichment activities CHAPTER TEST – Thursday on workbook- open notes used on test -PBS -media center dvd - khan academy -Discover Education INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES- (WORK SESSION)

1. Save work samples from previous week 1. Save work samples from previous week. Conduct or share work peer to peer and with Tuning Group 2. Digital media presentations with note taking and summarizing. 3. Practice tests with remediation on Evolution 4. Complete workbooks, reteach, and take home to study for chapter test. STUDENT WORK CELL PHONES ARE NOT USED IN CLASS. THE USE OF CELL PHONES IS CAUSING MISSED ASSIGNMENTS OR INCOMPLETE WORK RESULTING IN FAILING GRADES.

ASSESSMENTS/RUBRICS 1. Pre and Post quiz results on lessons. 2. Evaluation of VOCABULARY worksheets in class. 3. Completion of class workbooks at end of week for grade. 4. Current event presentation for grade. Start day is now March 4– Deadline is March 11. Using the web or printed resources- present 3 minutes on any topic we covered in life science to date this year ASSESSMENTS/RUBRICS

FOCUS QUESTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK What evidence will be collected to document student learning --------- 2. How will we introduce Biomes of the Earth? 3. What form of art will be used with instruction? 2. What are the opportunities to increase learning?- ----------Science magazines written for middle school students - -----------CURRENT EVENT PRESENTATION– due March 11
