Reactive Strategies

Skills Teaching

Self Care is any activity that we do deliberately to take care of or mental, emotional, and physical health

Self-Care has been found to be particularly important for parents who have children with additional needs Any ideas why?

Self Care is another Powerful Tool These parents usually experience higher levels of stress, and sometimes chronic stress You need to fill you tank to fill your child’s tank Modelling good self-care to child More able for challenges/crisis

Why do we overlook our needs?

Overlooking our needs Feel it is selfish Will take away from our child’s needs Long standing pattern Waiting till there is more time Nobody says my needs are important No support Feel guilty

What does self-care look like for you?

Self Care Ideas Starting with the basics: sleep, eating exercise Asking for help Being able to say ‘no’, and delegate Hobbies/Interest Carve out small breaks or ‘me moments’ Find your tribe Relaxation, deep breathing and mindfulness

‘Remember if you want to take the best possible care of your child, you must take care of yourself’
