Presentation transcript:

Towards a shared IS for Water REPORTING FOR WATER Towards a shared IS for Water The long term objective is to develop new, comprehensive and shared European data and information management system for water, including RB, following a participatory approach towards the MS

Spatial data server & WFD portal Short term Solution Member State Data load + validation Public DB Data query Validated data Info DB Data will be submitted as XML, GML and shape files Enables automatic validation of the data Manual processes to ensure complete compliance and where possible issues Once accepted, data will move to the View and Query server Spatial data server & WFD portal

Spatial data server & WFD portal Long term Solution National attribute databases Public Data query Info DB Spatial data server & WFD portal

The “Prototype” To facilitate the reporting in 2004 and 2005, the EC is currently developing a tool that will be made available for providing the foreseen data and information electronically and online.

2004 Reporting - GIS Geographical coverage of RBD RBD, RB, Sub-Basin Main rivers, lakes (>100km2) Ground waters Coastal waters Map showing the geographic area of jurisdiction of CA

CCM (Current) Basic Geographical Layer EU – wide Free Used by EU Institutions (JRC, ESTAT, EEA) Meets present COM needs for WFD Rep Limitations Needs to be corrected / developed for future use as GIS component for WFD Rep

EU GIS Reporting Important aspects: From CCM to EU Catchments Map Harmonisation EU institutions use Public access No replacement of (better) national systems From CCM to EU Catchments Map Next version of CCM (CCM2)? Complete / Update / Correct CCM2 with/by national data? Is there any existing EU-wide better solution?

EU GIS Reporting Issues for consideration in discussion: EU-wide harmonisation Public domain data Time frame Data updating process
