Unit 3 Extra Credit Due: Friday, May 9 Do one or both.

Writing Carnival A writing carnival is an activity in which a small group works together to produce a text. The first person takes a prompt and begins a story. They write for a set number of minutes. It then rotates to the second person, who reads what the first person wrote and then picks up where they left off. They write for a set number of minutes. Next, it goes to the third person, who reads everything already on the paper and then keeps writing. They write for a set number of minutes. It continues in this rotation before going back to the original writer, who then completes the story.

Dystopian Story Prompts 1. Funny how everyone says that was the day the world ended, when it was the beginning of mine. 2. Sometimes I forget the Wall did not always surround the town. 3. Gone, all of it was gone. 4. When I was six, I used to have nightmares that my house burned down, and I cried and cried because all my toys were lost forever. But now that it has - along with half the city - I feel relieved somehow. 5. There were twelve of us in the beginning. 6. If there's one thing I want to do before I die, it's to tell her I'm sorry. 7. I passed the test. My twin didn't. And now I'll never see him again. 8. There had to be others who were immune like me.

Writing Carnival Directions Write down the prompt assigned to you. You will begin your own story and write until it is time to rotate. We will do 4-6 rotations, depending on time. When all the rotations are complete, each group will vote on the ONE best story in their group. One member of each group can then read that story aloud. We’ll vote on the best story in the class.
