MGNREGA in ODISHA Shall we think Big

Is this what the Odia Elite Thinks? Cheap rice through PDS makes people lazy! MGNREGA leads to lazy workers ! Cheap Rice and MGNREGA together jack up rural wages ! MGNREGA has greater leakage than other programmes. (remember 2G and CWG? Has anyone called for closing down Mobile Services or Sports Programmes?)

Odia Worker among the Best Truly as Odia workers are in demand everywhere across India and increasingly across the globe, it seems the middle class has failed the workers rather than vice versa. When Odisha’s elite was less laidback Odia workers built some of the best structures ever built in India

Transparency & Accountability Almost every information under MGNREGA is in English Muster Rolls which workers are supposed to read and sign are in English. Display Boards are now in Odia Sarpanch has to digitally authorise payment on a computer screen and in English. They have little power of Implementation Workers have to travel long distances to get their payments. 15 kms is common. 40 kms not rare. Contractual staff are among the lowest paid in the country and with the least facilities.
