Your Theory Write a theory that gives at least one reason why some countries are more developed than others.

What Does Development Mean? Development usually means the things that lead to the economic wealth and security of a country. The more the developed a country is, the more people will have access to public services like garbage, water, electricity, hospitals, education and police.

Human Development Index The Human Development Index was created by the United Nations to measure the levels of development of the nations of the world. It uses demographic information from three categories. Economic Indicator Per Capita Gross Domestic Product Social Indicators Education Level Literacy Demographic Indicator Life Expectancy

Levels of Development Green =More Developed Countries- MDC Yellow =Developing: making progress Orange =Less Developed:extreme poverty

Per Capita GDP Blue =high ($30,000 +) green =high middle ($15,000-$30,000) purple =low middle ($1,000-$15,000) red = low (less than $1000)

Economic Sectors All economies are broken into three parts 1. primary industries: Industries that grow or gather resources a. farming (all forms) b. forestry c. mining d. fishing 2. secondary (manufacturing): any industry that makes something 3. tertiary (services): any job that takes place after a product is made (economists and geographers now recognize a fourth category (quaternary) that includes jobs in research, teaching and information processing)
