What she discovered was that… What did Jane discover after she spent so many years observing and recording ? What she discovered was that… chimps hunt and eat meat. chimps hunt a monkey as a group. Was her discovery important? She also discovered how chimps communicate with each other, and her study of their body language helped her work out their social system. (line23, para2) How do you understand “work out”?

her attitude What did she say for chimps? Once I stop, it all comes crowding in and I remember chimps in laboratories. It’s terrible. It affects me when I watch the wild chimps… What does “it” refer to? Why did she argue for chimps? Why did the writer use Jane’s quotation(引言)?

Discussion How do you understand the title “A Student of African Wildlife”? Is the word “student” well used in the title? Why or why not? What words and expressions are related to the description of Jane as a student? Is Jane a successful student? Why? As a student, what can you learn from her? (from the following aspects: attitude, study method, How to overcome difficulties, achievements)

What made Jane successful is her dertermination and her hard work as well as her persistence. In all life, she devoted most of her life and energy to doing the research on the chimps in their own environment. Learning from Jane, we can know that perseverance and persistence are of vital importance in achieving goals. It has been said that genius is simply a matter of perseverance and the refusal to give up. It takes a person with a very strong will to persevere in the face of mounting difficulties. I believe we do need to have the philosophy of never giving up.
