Presentation transcript:

Programme for Friday 9 July 10:00 : end of stable beams and EOF study: Removing crossing angles in IP1 and IP5 - Re-position the TCTs Octupoles to zero and switch on transverse feedback PM: Injection studies Beam scrapping studies Trajectory correction and collimator setting-up Overnight : Physics fill During ramp-down combo: New TCDQ software release done – Etienne Carlier and Christophe Boucly

Friday 9July 10:00 : End of stable beams and start of TCT setting-up without crossing angles in IP 1 & IP5 Removed IP1 and IP5 crossing angles Started to correct the orbit towards the collimator reference orbits at the end of ramp, with separation on. In that process, beams got dumped due to SIS orbit interlock on TCDQ. Were in the process of correcting a large bump in IP1. 10:30 – 13:00 : Preparing the machine for 450 GeV 13:00 – 14:30 : Access in Pt5 to fix FIP communication problem on B18R5 – Connector fixed. Access got delayed by 1h due to problem opening door YCPS05-UJ56.

Friday 9July Scrapping studies SPS – SPS – TI 2 – Chiara Bracco Tail scan performed for two collimator upstream of the TED with INDIV beam, with and without SPS beam scraping. PROBE beam (9E9 p+) has been dumped on each jaw to be able to correlate the BLM signal with the number of protons. Transverse blowup is giving large tails in H, with about 2% of the beam outside 4.5 sigma.

Friday 9July Scrapping studies SPS – TL – Chiara Bracco V cleaner  likely to need scraping operational in the H plane if this cannot be improved.

Friday 9July 17:00 Pre-cycle over, LHC ready for beam injection and recovery of nominal parameters. 18:00 – 02:30 : Starting injection studies: Brennan, Chiara, Malika,Volker, Kajetan Revisiting TI 2 H and V trajectory corrections (before re-setting-up of all TL collimators) Performed TI 2 bare corrections  allowed removing most of the correctors which have been added over the weeks wrt to May orbit reference Corrected the injection oscillations into the LHC Stored the new trajectory in the reference catalogue

Friday 9July TI 8 trajectory : first simulated corrections on TI 8 trajectory  suspicion on the sign of BPMI87804 (both planes). Reminder: was inverted H and V and this was fixed. But the signs are wrong (H and V)  confirmed by kick response measurements in both planes (Kajetan) (red model – blue measurements) to note BPMIH.87904 is also suspicious (plane inverted?)

Friday 9July Continued with the 7 collimator setting-up in TI 2 around the new trajectory. Scanned and re-centred all devices using the nominal +/- 4.5 sigma gaps. New settings deployed and trimmed into the beam process; position thresholds to do. Injected nominal intensity bunches for B1. E: H~3.2 um - V 3.8 um. Losses seen at first over-injection x5 over threshold on TCTVB. Subsequent injections below threshold. Injected 12 nominal bunches, final 8 with BLMs unmasked, to total intensity of 1.1e12. Dump of 12 nominal bunches clean Injection oscillations for B1 with the new steering look OK (<1mm in both planes) - avoid correcting from now on.

Friday 9July Preparing for physics fill with “rotated injected bunch pattern” Single_10b_4_2_4_rot Bucket 1 does not collide anymore in IP1 and IP5 (would exclude the suspicion that the losses are related to bucket number) Injected 9 bunches of each beam. Problem of timing affecting the SPS-LHC cycle. Also problem in the LHC RF synchronisation Beams were dumped to attempt a re-synchronisation. Not possible. Finally SPS timing problem was solved early morning and LHC RF synchronisation problem disappeared right away.

Today Now: Filling for Physics fill with single10b_4_2_4_rot 14:00 (TBC) : EOF - ADT feedback on / TCTs repositioning without xing angles 16:00 – 18:00 : Ramp-down combo 18:00 – 02:00 : Injection studies early Sun morning: Physics fill

To Be Done Establish absolute reference orbit with stable beam configuration – Joerg Wenninger EOF: Octupoles to zero WS (vs. BLM threshold) – Bernd Dehning ADT with colliding beams – Wolfgang Hofle Loss maps – Ralph Assmann Beam time requests: Hump measurements – Gianluigi – 450 GeV, 1.5h Optics measurements – Rogelio Tomas, 450 GeV (8hr) and 3.5 TeV (8h) Beam-beam studies – Werner Herr (few shifts) High/Low gain sensitivity switch (mostly parasitically) Request without beams: New TCDQ software release – Etienne Carlier

Pending Requests Access requests: In investigation: Wire scanner B2: electronics board to change – Anna Guerrero TCLA.B5L3.B2 collimator (during next TS) – Alessandro Masi In investigation: RSS.A34B1 S34 : No PM by detector due to the low current level in the circuit --> no trigger. PM however from switch confirming self opening (both flags change state). 1st event of this kind in LHC to be studied by EE experts once back from holidays. But tripped again 2 other times
