With the various social movements, awareness and influencing on our legislators various states have removed the ceiling of reviver statutes. The statistics and the impact of abuse on victims, organizations and society are staggering, yet many of these incidents may be preventable with the right tools and resources. We have partnered with Praesidium that places focus on value added risk management tools, separate from the insurance transaction with a focused direction towards prevention of abuse or molestation. They come with over 25 years of experience in this field and helps organizations reduce the risk of sexual abuse, loss of reputation, revenue, and false allegations through education and awareness . PRAESIDIUM PARTNERSHIP RISK MANAGEMENT TOOLS AND RESOURCES EMPLOYEE/VOLUNTEER SCREENING AND SELECTION TOOLKIT DISCOUNTED BACKGROUND SCREENINGS SAFETY MANAGEMENT TRAINING MODEL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES RECORDED WEBINARS So let’s take a look at some of those Risk Management Tools The Employee/Volunteer Screening and Selection Toolkit in my opinion is an insureds number one resource in selecting the best possible employees and volunteers for their organization. It includes best practices on screening and selection, procedures, template application, procedures for background checks, interview questions, skill assessments, and an interpretative guide for interview responses. This tool is in my opinion one of the strongest counter measures in a prevention strategy. Discounted Background Screenings while an important component of an insureds overall abuse program they are not all the same for each organization. 95% of the time screenings come back clear. Running background screenings is a good practice and should be a component of the overall program but most offenders have not been caught. Best practices are screenings need to be done at hire and then every three years. With Praesidium your insured can call and customize their background screening program to fit their organizations needs. Safety Management Training As I’ve said in the past our SM team is our best competitive advantage when placing your business with Selective. They have a local dedicated staff that has a consultative approach that delivers customized solutions to your insureds needs. Our SM staff has just completed an in person abuse or molestation training with the Praesidium staff and are now better versed to have those important conversations with your insureds to ensure they have the best measures in place to protect their vulnerable. Model Policies and Procedures You and your insureds have access to model abuse policies & procedures through our Praesidium partnership. This tool is also available at no additional cost. The combination of the screening and selection toolkit and model policies are a powerful tool and huge competitive advantage. Even if an insured has adequate controls in place when was the last time they were updated? Almost every insured could benefit from reviewing the documents to see if there are areas for improvement in protecting the vulnerable population they serve. The model policies are extensive and include all components of strong plan. They can be used in whole or in part and are a very resourceful tool.
