Clemson beats Alabama

The Clemson Tigers are national champions for a third time after defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide 44-16 in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday night at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Although it was an all around great game for Clemson, the biggest reason for the victory was probably the tremendous play of Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who finished 20-of-32 for 347 yards through the air and three touchdowns. What makes his performance so remarkable is that Alabama is likely to have multiple players from the defense selected in the first round of the 2019 draft.

In Other News President Donald Trump has opted to try and appeal to Americans in a prime-time Oval Office address tonight to unite behind his crusade for a border wall. About 57% of Americans oppose Trump's wall according to a December poll conducted by an independent research company. Those numbers are similar to where they were just after Trump took office in 2017. On Tuesday night, Trump will commandeer the symbolic might of his office in an effort to bolster a political approach that has failed to force Democrats to cave to his demand for $5 billion in wall funding amid a government shutdown now in its third week. New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and allied progressive groups are ramping up their push for a Green New Deal. The ambitious grouping of policy proposals would move the country toward 100% renewable energy through a series of economic reforms. Movement leaders do not agree on a price tag. Estimates run in the hundreds of billions of dollars, or more. But they argue a combination of tax hikes on the super wealthy -- Ocasio-Cortez has floated a 70% rate on income over $10 million -- and cuts to fossil fuel industry subsidies and military spending, in addition to other things, would offset any cost.
