in organizations raises important issues such as: Value of KM! Use of Knowledge in organizations raises important issues such as: Power Culture Control Dependence Visibility

POWER in organizations: Issues in use of Knowledge: POWER in organizations: Power in the firm is the … i. Client/customer base and ii. Staff’s analytical ability. If I put all my info in the database, I loose power? I have developed an area of expertise, If I shared then YOU will get credit and NOT me? And I will loose?

CULTURE : Every body is very busy, NO time to think! Issues in use of Knowledge: CULTURE : Every body is very busy, NO time to think! If you are using IT, you are not doing something important?

Issues in use of Knowledge: CONTOL I don’t have any control on how my information in databases will be used by other people? How this info will be mis-constructed and mis-represented?

Issues in use of Knowledge: DEPENDENCE You search a data base, cannot find what you were looking for! It may create a sense of paralyzing, Oh, “what do I do now?”

Issues in use of Knowledge: VISIBILITY “ I am fearful that I would put something in database and it becomes public and it turns out that I was wrong, somebody will catch it and it will reflect badly upon me.”

VISIBILITY “People are uncomfortable to put up their ideas Issues in use of Knowledge: VISIBILITY “People are uncomfortable to put up their ideas (say on bulletin boards) because they are afraid of having them shot down!”
