Balsa Foam Stamp Clay Tile Relief

Measure & draw four 4” x 4” squares in your sketchbook

Sketch unique designs in each square.

Select your favorite design.

Draw your design directly onto the balsa block or use needle transfer method.

Letters and Numbers Must Be Written & Carved Backwards! Remember! Letters and Numbers Must Be Written & Carved Backwards!

Carve your design into a balsa block using a pencil or carving tools.

Roll out a thick slab of clay Roll out a thick slab of clay. Remember to use the canvas for grey clay in the roller.

Cut out a square tile at least 4” x 4” (can be larger).

You may as well cut a second one for your next clay tile project.

Press your carved design onto your fresh clay tile.

Smooth the sides of your tile, rubbing away cut marks and rough edges.

Press tiles on sheet of paper. Press down all edges and corners so tiles are completely flat to prevent warping during drying.
