Plot Title: This chapter talks about how Ruth is attracted to Harlem and wants to be a part of it, but as a naive young girl who is 19 years old at the time, and gets “lost” and almost ends up in a really bad situation

Plot Contin. In this chapter we learn about what happened when Ruth left Suffolk for New York. We also learn about how Ruth met James’ biological father, Andrew McBride. As the title tells us, Ruth gets “lost” and runs into some trouble trying to “find” herself.
