Telling time

Mentioned previously We mentioned previously that time is a foreign thing in traditional Potawatomi life. Something got done in the time it took to do it. If it didn’t get done you went without. For example if a person told you a ceremony started at around 3:00pm it would be more realistic than saying we will start at 3:00pm.

How to ask what time it is Ni jetso yawek? (Literally how much of it is there) (This is favored in Kansas) _______ Yawen. It is ________ (also favored in Kansas) Ni jetso dbegenak? ( How much is there measured) (Favored in Wisconsin) _________ Dbe genak- It measures out to (favored in Wisconsin) _________ Dbe gne is also used when you are not talking about an exact time.

Again the pi tends to indicate time. It cant be used alone though. Ni pi je- where Ni je pi- when Bama pi- later on. (literally a later time)
