Brown vs Board of Education Before 1954, public schools in the south were segregated. Black students had separate schools that were not equal to the schools that white students attended.

The Little Rock Nine These pictures appeared on the front page of papers all throughout the nation. President Dwight Eisenhower called the governor to Washington DC and ordered him to remove the National Guard.

The Little Rock Nine The next year, Ernest Green became the first of the Little Rock Nine to graduate.
