Chapter 2 : Desktop When we operated the computer by pressing power button the following monitor will appear which called desktop.

Type of icons: 1.File : Pressing on the file icon start operating such program ( show a picture or operating a song), different form of file depended on program that open the file 2. Folder : a package that contains different type of files , when press on the folder a list of files will appear.

3. Shortcut: Pressing them will move into a remote folder or run a program. Its shape varies according to the program but its mark is a small arrow at the bottom left As shown:

Desktop Options We place the mouse pointer anywhere on the desktop and make a right click, the desktop selection menu will appear: 1. View : The size of the icons is selected on the desktop (large) , Medium .... etc), as can be made to organize the icons automatically by selecting Auto Arrange Icons

2. Sort by : Used to arrange the icons according to a particular sequence ( name , size , item type , date modified) . 3. Refresh : Re-generate the image on the screen 4. New : Used to create a new folder to save the files inside. 5. Screen resolution: Used to change the screen resolution by changing the precision field value 6. Gadgets : Used for calendar mode, clock, picture browser, weather condition, …., etc. 7. Personalize : to change the Background , screen saver time as shown:

To use a ready theme: Click one click on any of the shapes in the field. To change the background : Click icon desktop background ,the screen will appear below, after selecting the required settings click Save changes.

To change the Screen saver : Click icon screen saver, ,the screen will appear below, after selecting the required settings click Apply then OK.

To change the main desktop icons : Click change desktop icons, ,the screen will appear below, put a mark ( √ ) in front of the required choice.

Start Menu: When you click , the Start menu shown below will appear. This menu is used to access all programs and games installed on Calculator, and also provides access to different places of the computer such as: Control Panel, My Documents, My Computer

The computer is turned off by pressing Start menu < shutdown An automatic restart can be done, by pressing Start menu < Click the arrow next to the phrase ( shutdown) < press restart

The menu above contains a selection sleep which reduces power consumption without turning off the computer when the user leaves it for a period of time, It contains a selection Hibernate which stores open windows when the computer is turned off. If more than one user is in the account, users are navigated by selecting Switch User in the same above menu. The creation of more than one user for the account will be explained in Chapter 5 “Control Panel”

Chapter 3 : Entering to Computer content Hard drive partitions: When you double click on the ( My Computer) icon Located on the desktop , The hard drive partitions will appear (It is usually from one section symbolizing it C Up to four sections C , E , F, D) In addition to the CD drive partition.

You can access the sections by double clicking on the required section You can access the sections by double clicking on the required section. Normally, the C partition is used to install Windows files and applications so it is best not to enter it without sufficient knowledge. To play a CD, place the disc in the disk drive and click the drive icon CD-ROM double-click (Sometimes the disk is turned on automatically Auto Run, It automatically runs when placed in the CD drive) The side navigation window provides quick links to various computer sections. You can go to the desired section with a single click.

Main operations on folders and files: Switch between folders: To enter folders: Double click on the desired folder. To exit a folder or return to a previous page: Click the Back button at the top right of the window. To move page forward: Click the Progress button (This button works only after a return procedure). To move more than one step: Click the arrow next to the components of the return and progress, and a list of all records entered during the navigation< click on the site to go.

2. Craet new folder: Place the pointer in any empty space on the page to create a new folder < double click < new < folder , A new folder appears under the name New folder. 3. Change the name of a folder or file: Place the pointer on the folder or file to change its name < right click < rename < write the new name. Note: To convert typing in the keyboard between Arabic and English: Click the icon below the right of the window and select the desired language.

4. Copy a file or folder : Used to make a second copy of a record or file while retaining the original as follow: Put the pointer on the desired object < right click < copy < We move to the window where the version is to be placed < right click < paste. Note: To copy more than one item, we draw a rectangle around the required items by left-clicking and dragging, and a blue selection appears on the selected elements. 5. Move file or folder to another location: Used to transfer a file or folder from one location to another as follow: Put the pointer on the desired object < right click < cut < We move to the window where the version is to be placed < right click < paste.

6. Delete file or folder : Two way for delete objects: 1. Transfer file to Recycle bin : This method is used to delete items that we suspect we may need again as they can be put back in place. To delete the item by moving it to the recycle bin: Put the pointer on the desired object < right click < delete < A confirmation request will appear < click yes To return the file to its original location: we go to the desktop < double click on the recycle bin icon < Put the pointer on the desired object < right click < restore

To clear the contents of the Recycle Bin (when making sure that no deleted files are needed): Right click on the recycle bin icon < empty recycle bin 2. Clear the item immediately and definitively: (ie, the deleted item can not be returned): Click shift delete at the same time < A confirmation message appears < click yes

7. Search for a specific element that we know is part of its name: Enter to the partition where ssearch is required < write part of name in the field search computer < Moments later the search results will appear. The desired file can be played by clicking on it
