Nephr(on): functional unit of a kidney Logy: the study of something WHAT IS NEPHROLOGY? Nephr(on): functional unit of a kidney Logy: the study of something Nephrology - the branch of medicine that deals with the physiology and diseases of the kidneys.

Jobs that involve nephrology Nephrologists - diagnose and treat people with kidney problems (renal problems) Nephrology Nurses - care for and treat patients suffering from kidney problems. This may include administering medication and assisting with dialysis. (For many patients in the later stages of kidney disease, dialysis is a necessary procedure for keeping people alive) Nephrology Social Workers -  together with nephrologists, nurses, dietitians, and patient care technicians, social workers support patients in their management of a complex treatment regimen.
