Experimental time for non-proprietary use (25% of Industrial use) Powder diffractometer (med reso.) is very popular and experimental time is mainly from 1 to 12 hours (one measurement time is 10-20min at ambient temperature and a robot handles many samples Automatic 24/7 experiments) Powder diff. Guidline for use ○ Category of use ○ Proposal and Review system <non-proprietary use> ・free for industries and academic sectors ・ No discrimination against foreign users and industries ・< proprietary use > ・cost is about $25,000-$30,000/day ○ Proposal and Review system <Regular call-for proposal> ・Twice a year for regular proposal ・< Frequent call-for proposal > ・Every machine cycle only for industrial use on a specific instrument (Powder and Protein X-tal diff.) ・< Reviewing > ・ peer reviewing in panels of 7 scientific fields + Industrial field with a different reviewing standard for industrial use. ・ Proprietary use: Just safety and technical reviewing

Activity to facilitate industrial use ・ User support organizations (Government’s initiative) (CROSS, Ibaraki prefecture, 70 staffs & 8 M$/y) consult, out-reach, experimental support, analysis, sample preparation ・ 6 Science coordinators consult industries in free of charge what experiment, which instrument, how to write proposal etc. ・ Experimental exercise for novice users; Trial use, school experimental training, course and data analysis ・ Industrial user forum (50 member companies); seminar, training and education User symposium Workshops Seminar
