Presentation transcript:

LTI no 48: Tanker roll-over 28/Nov/00 This fully loaded diesel tanker was travelling from Fahud to Yibal. The front left tyre failed on the straight blacktop road. The driver lost control. 1

LTI no 48: Tanker roll-over 28/Nov/00 During the roll-over the helper got scared. He removed his seatbelt and tried to get out. BAD MISTAKE ! He was thrown out of the cab. The truck rolled over his legs. Both legs were broken. Helper was trapped here !! 2

LTI no 48: Tanker roll-over 28/Nov/00 This was the main cause of the roll-over: a blown tire. The tire was new. It is not yet clear why this happened. 3

LTI no 48: Tanker roll-over 28/Nov/00 Discuss in your team: - Would you be prepared if your tire suddenly blew up ? - How can you keep control of your vehicle if a tire blows ? - How do you reduce the chance of a tire blow-up ? - check: tire condition, tire pressure, load on the car - Is high or low speed better? - Should the helper have removed his seatbelt? - What would have happened to him if he had NOT removed his seatbelt? 4
