Operant Conditioning: Punishment Why is punishment generally disadvantageous? May produce unwanted side effects: Rage Aggression Fear People/animals learn to avoid aversive consequences Suppresses, but does not eliminate unwanted behavior Does not necessarily teach appropriate behavior
