Basic IP and Entrepreneurship Services to be provided by SME Support Institutions in Suriname

SME Support Institutions SME Support Institutions: 1. Specifically aimed at SME 2. SME as part of broader service package The case for Suriname: mostly category 2 (via both government and private sector institutions)

SME Support Support that is currently provided: access to credit (e.g. SME-loans); training and capacity building; awareness. There is no specific support yet in the area of IP

SME Support - Policy The Necessity of a Specific SME Policy A specific policy that sets the direction for SME entrepreneurship; Resulting in an SME Law and other supporting legislation, with specific SME support, by both Government and Private Sector Institutions

SME Support – Services (general) Basic Services to be provided within the specific SME support: Incentives (tax incentives, subsidies, simplified registration procedures, reduced fees for certain services) Market Access improvement; More structured training; Creating new mechanisms for A2F: OSF, Secured Transactions; Access to land/ commercial work space Enhancement of cooperation between the existing Support Institutions; Setting up of helpdesks for: coaching and advice; support in the area IP

SME Support - IP Basic Services to be provided in the area of IP IP helpdesk within MTI/BIE for first-line advice and information; Nationwide training and awareness (for increased know-how and enforcement of IP); ADR (mediation and arbitration) in IP conflicts; Commercializing IP: tools
