Classification A clownfish is classificated in the Actinopterygii class. The Phylum of the clownfish is a Chordata. The Clownfish come from the Pomacentridae family. The Clownfish get their name from their colors and their behavior.

Habitat Clownfish are found in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Clownfish live in Sea Anemones for protection from other predators . The Sea Anemone can be found attached to coral reefs or in the sand. The Sea Anemone has stinging tentacles which helps protect the Clownfish.

Reproduction During reproduction the female is the largest ,the breeding male is the second largest. During the fertilization if the female dies the male changes sex. Depending on the size of the female, they can hatch between 400- 1500 of eggs. They lay their eggs in a save place near the Anemone they live in. The male always watches over the young.

Special adaptations The Clownfish are best known for contact with the stinging tentacles of a Sea Anemone and not be harmed . The Clownfish also feeds the Anemone with the waste and food from eating.
