6 Elements of design

Line This image is demonstrating line. The lines in the wood are guiding your eye to look into the image. Unlike the posts along the wood, running vertical.

Shape Shapes can direct eye movement throughout a picture, and here that is represented well. While representing shape, this image also uses the principle repetition, which creates rhythm.

Colour Primary, secondary, and tertiary colours in this photo all emphasis the colour in this picture. This photo also represents the principle of balance, seeing that there is an equal amount of pencils on both sides of the photo.

Texture Texture is shown in this photo simply by the melting of the ice cream, and being the main focus for this image.

Value This picture represents value because of the different degrees of lightness and darkness shown here. The value of this image includes dark tones, which makes it seem gloomy.

Depth Depth is represented in this photo by the angle this photo was taken. It creates an allusion that the pool ball is bigger then the rest of them. The photograph blurs out the background and focuses on the number eight ball, also creating emphasis on the ball.

7 principles of design

Movement This picture not only represents movement but radical balance as well. The staircase grabs the viewers eye and takes them down the spiral. At the beginning of the staircase there is a statue that starts the radical balance, and demonstrates a pattern from the lines of the staircase all the way up.

Repetition Repetition is clearly shown by the street lights which are the main focus in this picture. The only thing changing as you get deeper into the photo is the background sky.

Rhythm This image is a good example of rhythm because there are multiple lockers, all looking the same that create a pattern, making the elements flow together.

Unity This photo demonstrates unity because the dulled sunset colours work very well with the tinted grey sea and black walkway on the left. All these colours are dark and dull so they belong together, making this photograph look complete.

Contrast I picked this photo to show contrast for many reasons. There are many opposites, such as the texture. My dogs fur is smooth while the blanket he is wrapped in is rough on the touch. Another opposite are the colour, the blanket has some bright colours (pinks and greens, etc) compared to my dogs fur which is naturel tones (blondes and browns).

Emphasis Emphasis in this photo is placed on the airplane, particularly certain parts of the wing. My eyes are drawn to the Southwest writing and the other red spots shown on the wing.

Balance- Rule of Thirds The building left to the moon represents rule of thirds because if there was a three by three grid drawn on this picture, the building would be positioned a third into the photo.

Balance- Symmetrical I chose this picture for symmetrical because it is quite obvious that the bridges are mirror images of each other, concluding they are exactly the same.

Balance- Asymmetrical This image clearly shows asymmetrical because the camera is balanced at an angle that makes the paper bill look very big compared to the small coins in the top left corner. Even though these two things are very different, there is still a sense of balance throughout the photo.

Balance- Radial This photograph is radial because the main part your eye focuses on is the center of the flower, and that is where the petals branch off, creating a radical balance.
