Fig The Kaplan-Meier curve depicts the difference in 5-year survival for patients experiencing spinal cord ischemia (SCI) after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) in the Vascular Quality Initiative. Notably, patients with transient SCI (identified during the index TEVAR admission and then reversed prior to discharge) can achieve similar survival to subjects without any spinal cord ischemia, demonstrating the value of prevention and/or rescue maneuvers in these patients. However, patients who suffer SCI after TEVAR without any in-hospital recovery have significantly worse overall 5-year survival (<50%; log-rank, P <.0001).
