The K-building The k-building is located behind the main building Our fourth and fifth grade classrooms are in the k building Students pass through a covered walkway to enter The building is locked, so students use a classroom pass to enter the main building during the day In the mornings, the building is unlocked temporarily on arrival After school has begun, tardy students have to be let into the building by a teacher or classmate. Please try to have your student arrive on time to school The K-building

Standards based vs. Traditional Report Cards In Cobb, our K-3 students use a standards based report card. 3, 2, 1 areas are very broad.  A missing assignment or item with a low grade does not affect the overall score as much with a standards-based report card. Beginning in fourth grade, we use a traditional report card. This report card averages grades, with some items being weighted higher than others. Counselors and teachers spend time teaching the students how a 0 or low grade can affect their average on a traditional report card. Parents and students are encouraged to check grades often. Absences require make-up work to be completed, so that it can be averaged into the grade.

ParentVue, StudentVue and Synergy are pretty much the same thing! 1) Account information given during open house. 2) Once you activate your account, all students in your family are connected. you do not need new accounts for younger siblings, they just appear! 3) Also, when your child changes grade, school or level (elem to middle, middle to high) in COBB, they keep the same account. No need to reactivate.  4) Once you have an account, you can check grades as often as you like, anytime. 5) There is also a phone app 6) Students will use this until graduation! 7) Demonstration ParentVue, StudentVue and Synergy are pretty much the same thing!

Skills they REALLY need to practice over the summer... Math facts, particularly multiplication Typing Subtraction with regrouping Read, read, read

AC classes and the gifted program Advanced Content Course are offered in 4th and 5th grade in ELA and Math Students are identified based on a matrix completed in 3rd grade including standardized testing data, 3rd grade teacher recommendations, and grades Students are offered AC classes, and parents can agree with the placement or decline. If declined, they are not offered a place for the following year. 5th grade AC placement does not guarantee middle school AC placement. Each middle school has different criteria for AC placement. Target program participation guarantees one AC placement class in 6th grade Students can be tested for Target placement5th grade students take the ITBS. 4th grade does not take this test.

Moving on to middle school Transition to Middle School Kincaid students feed to 3 different middle schools. About 60% Simpson, 30% Daniell, 10% Dodgen Articulation activities are posted on teacher blogs and Ms. Weitnauer's blog. Field trips are scheduled between Feb-April to visit Middle Schools Some Middle School Counselors also come over and visit Kincaid 5th graders Parent nights are also advertised on teacher blogs, flyers are sent home if provided by the middle school Fifth grade IOWA tests play a very large part in determining 6th grade classes.  Fifth grade teachers do not have any part in recommending students for 6th grade classes. Milestones have also been used in the past as another piece of data to support placing a student in advanced content classes. Moving on to middle school
