What are the designs for modern body armour suits ? How much protection can modern body armour provide ? What materials are modern body armour made of? What are some designs for modern body armour ? What kind of threats will future body armour have to provide protection against ? What kind of materials could be used to make future body armour ? What are some designs for future body armour ?

Since the ancient times, soldiers wore armour into battle to protect themselves from sword blades and arrows. Even now soldiers still wear body armour into battle to protect themselves against battlefield threats such as bullets and explosives. Two examples of a kind of body armour is shown below. Examples of a type of body armour called dragon skin armour.

Modern body amour manufacturers are using designs such as steel fiber meshes, ceramic-composites and molded glass materials to create a strong, but light body amour suite that can wrap comfortly around the body. One kind of flexible armour design is used in Pinnacle Armours Dragon Skin Body Armour. The body armour is made up of lots of small, bullet-proof tiles that create a flexible scale-like layer that can bend and twist. In battle, the dragon skin armour can withstand up to 9mm shots such as AK-47s, M16s and sniper rifles. Background link This is a diagram showing the flexible mechanism of STF (Shear Thickening Fluid) before impact, and after impact.

One of the best designs in modern body armour is the (Lightweight Integrated Mobility Body Armour System) or LIMBS. This system is designed to give better protection to the thighs, as well as the biceps and shoulders and weigh 25% less than other body armour systems. So when LIMBS is worn in battle, it can provide better comfort and mobility to its wearer. LIMBS body armour worn by a U.S soldier

Body armour has been worn in battle to protect against swords and arrows in the past, and against explosives and bullets in modern times. And in the future, the armour will need to protect against possible future weaponry such as lasers, high-tech bullets and all kinds of advanced weapons. A concept of a future soldier wearing futuristic body armour in combat. Another possible concept of a future soldier.

One possibility for future body armour material is carbon nanotubes which is around 7 times stronger than the technology that we have now. The armour would be made up of millions of tiny carbon nanotubes to create the strongest man-made material ever. In battle, the carbon nanotube suit would be built to absorb high- speed bullets because of its strong fiber strength. But it would also let its wearer move around more easily because it is lightweight. A picture showing what carbon nanotubes look like.

One design for light future body armour is inspired by a primitive fish called the Dinosaur eel that lives in West Africa. It has four layers of scales and each about 500 millionths of a meter thick. The scientists at MIT found that the scales provide very effective protection because of the thickness, geometry and different materials of each layer. The fish called the dinosaur eel that inspired designs for future body armour.

I started the project by introducing a little bit of ancient body armour, then went on to find some information on modern body armour and putting it into my own words. After I finished the slides about the modern body armour, I went on to future body armour and researched about it. The challenges I had were searching for good backgrounds, getting the information on future body armour and trying to get all of the sound recording perfect. The successes I had were getting some good information from good sites and all the good sites I got were found on Google. Some of the issues that came up when documenting were sometimes the connection failed and I couldn't save it properly but in the end the project turned out pretty well.
