Presentation transcript:

CR Reminders: You are no longer limited to 5 lines, but there is still NO space for summaries!! 1st part: addresses/answers all parts of the question (thesis statement) 2nd part: quoted or paraphrased material from the text that specifically supports your 1st part 3rd part: your analysis, explanation, elaboration or connection of 2nd and 1st parts 4th part: closing statement, inference, or significance

For example: In your thesis, you should say what the tone is A theme is a SENTENCE, not a word or phrase How does the tone help develop the theme of the text? In your thesis, you should say what the tone is say what the theme is say HOW the tone helps develop the theme

Dos and Don’ts: DO: DON’T: Support your textual evidence with meaningful commentary Relate back to your thesis Include buzz words AND answer the question in thesis Give the reader something to think about in the conclusion sentence Stay on topic Introduce your evidence with context (what’s going on in the text at that point?) DON’T: Include opinion, personal pronouns, or contractions Simply restate the thesis in your conclusion sentence Say “In conclusion…” or “This quote shows…” or “An example is…” Take up most of your CR with a crazy amount of quote Give evidence that has nothing to do with the thesis
