Welcome to the TRIAD

We are so glad YOU are a part of our TEAM! Mr. Carter, Mrs. Frazier, Mr. Grennan and Mrs. Murdock have lots of experience in helping our students realize their potential. We believe in Ohana…family. Some of the ways we like to learn include: Living history Fun science experiences Cool math songs Personalized approach to learning

HERE’S SOME INFORMATION TO HELP US WORK TOGETHER TO HELP YOUR 5th GRADER BE SUCCESSFUL THIS YEAR…

#1 POWERSCHOOL IS OUR FRIEND!!!  Whether you use THIS or THIS There’s a free APP that allows us to communicate...

Download the app to your phone and check your 5th grader’s grades with him/her often. It is a great springboard for discussions and goal setting!

To clarify grades, here is a quick guide: There are A’s, B’s, C’s, and I’s. Most people know what A, B, and C, signify. I’s are a little confusing. There are 2 “flavors” of I’s – one means the grade was below 70%. It means your student had a hard time with that assignment, but he or she did the work. That’s GOOD! It simply means that s/he needs more practice – and that’s perfectly fine! The other kind of “I” is a 0% and that kind of “I” is the one we don’t like! It means that the work was not completed.  It is important that this work is completed ASAP!

#2 USING A PLANNER IS A GREAT HABIT TO ESTABLISH

We provide a planner for just this purpose We provide a planner for just this purpose. Encourage your son or daughter to write in family events, birthdays, practices, games, and outside activities in addition to assignments. Personalization is the VERY best way to make the planner valuable to your 5th grader! Take time to share your methods of organization so your child can learn this IMPORTANT skill!

#3 We post the daily work each morning on the board #3 We post the daily work each morning on the board. Homework is circled so students know what is due the next day.  *There will be math homework EVERY SINGLE NIGHT with our new Math Expressions program that Sparta Schools has adopted.

#4 OUR DAILY SCHEDULE LOOKS SOMETHING LIKE THIS: Before lunch : Specials and two classes After lunch: Kids are with their advisory teachers for Reading, Writing, Word Work, and one more class. Specific daily schedules are in your Open House packet. Lunch is from 11:40 – 12:25

We don’t have a “scheduled” snack time, but your son or daughter is welcome to munch on NUTRITIOUS food and drink water any time in class. Fruits, veggies, yogurt, nuts, etc. are good for brains,  as is water! *When we are using computers at desks or during a science lab students will be asked to forego food/drink. Please save “dessert” foods(cookies, cakes, crackers, chips) for lunchtime. The exception to this is birthday treats..

#5 YOU are your son’s or daughter’s “SECRET WEAPON of MASSIVE SUCCESS Research shows that involved parents make a HUMONGOUSLY POSITIVE impact on a child’s success in school! We would LOVE to have you be a part of our day. There are TONS of opportunities for you to volunteer in your child’s classrooms! GRANDPARENTS are also wonderful volunteers due to their flexibility. We ♥ them! Volunteering is as easy as reshelving/organizing books, listening to students read aloud, correcting papers, organizing Friday Folders, teaching J.A., and so forth. You just let us know when you are available and what you like to do…we can find a great opportunity for you to impact your child’s classroom!

WATCH D.O.G.S. We are looking for a few good men… Dads and Grandpas who would like to volunteer please let us know. Please stop by the table in the lobby for more information.

Other ways we could use your help… There are a variety of classroom supplies that we use to enhance instruction. We especially need tissues and disinfecting wipes. THANK YOU!!! Tissues!! Disinfecting Wipes!!

#6 WE ARE HERE TO HELP!!!  Yes, we are experienced teachers, but first and foremost, we are parents! We are caretakers, cooks, cleaners, nurses, church members, chauffeurs, coaches, cheerleaders, and counselors who have crazy busy lives just like you. We “get” it. Our own children are individuals who have unique challenges and we have worked with children who face real challenges as well. 

Please email us with concerns or good stuff to share about your son / daughter. We are here for you!!!
