Welcome! September 12th, 2017 Tuesday Do Now Get out your weekly Bell Ringer sheet and begin working on Tuesday’s assignment. Once the bell rings, you will have five minutes to guess the meaning of the word. Make sure you explain your thinking! Remember: Do Now's are INDEPENDENT and QUIET exercises. Thank you 

The newspaper article was mendacious and hurtful. Read the following sentence and guess the meaning of the word mendacious based on the context. The newspaper article was mendacious and hurtful. Not telling the truth; lying. © Presto Plans

Chapter 24 Quizzer Tear a piece of paper in half and give one half to a partner. At the top of your half sheet, you need: Your name The date Class/Block Assignment Title (For today, it’s “Chapter 24 Quizzer”)

Chapter 24 Quizzer: Block 1/2 Whom does Atticus ask to go with him to tell Helen Robinson about the death of her husband?

Chapter 24 Quizzer: Block 5/6 How many times was Tom Robinson shot by the prison guards?

Empathy Activity! Class Discussion: Look at the quote to the right. What does it mean? What does empathy mean? Would you consider yourself an empathetic person? Why or why not? Has there ever been a situation that required you to put yourself in someone else’s shoes?

Empathy Activity! Consider the three scenarios and put yourself in the position of the teacher, parent, or police officer. With your group/partner consider their perspective on the situation and in the space below, write how you think each of these people felt in each particular situation. Make predictions about why they reacted the way they did, what their lives might be like, or what they might have been thinking/feeling/dealing with that day.

Empathy Activity! Once you finish the empathy activity, turn over your paper – there’s more on the back!  Read the novel quotations along the left side of your page. Each of these quotes connects with the topic of empathy that develops in the novel. Choose two quotes to examine further and answer the questions on the right side of the page. Once you finish, feel free to work on your homework: Read Chapter 25.
