Presented by The Salvation Army USA Southern Territory Being An Influencer Presented by The Salvation Army USA Southern Territory Welcome – share *goals* for the day. We are going to talk about how each of us are influencers for The Salvation Army and how we can use our expertise to share The Salvation Army’s story. We are going to learn how to focus our messaging in a way that raises awareness about The Salvation Army. Each of you are going to have the opportunity to have “on camera” experience.

Being An Influencer Our communications world thrives on ‘soundbites’ and ‘grabbers.’ How do you inform a stranger of the what, how and why of The Salvation Army in a short time?

So What Is An Influencer? Whatever our role within The Salvation Army; officer, employee, volunteer, we are all influencers. Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? Do you have any interview experience?

So What Is An Influencer? Being an influencer is obviously someone who influences another. We see it constantly with advertising, tempting you to try this product, buy that brand of vehicle, visit that city, fly that airline, and the list goes on. Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? So, Who Are the Army’s Influencers? Our Congregation Our Employees Our Volunteers Our Vendors Our Partners Etc. etc. Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? Do you have any interview experience?

Exercise Time! Imagine you are in an elevator where your fellow passenger asks you; “what does The Salvation Army do?”. Wow! How would you respond – and in a few seconds, as the elevator is moving. Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? Do you have any interview experience?

Exercise Time! You have ten minutes to write your ‘influencer elevator speech’. Avoid Army acronyms. Write in soundbites-single sentences at are broad and clearly defined. Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? Do you have any interview experience?

Exercise Time! This should get us thinking in what the media calls ‘soundbites’! Short meaningful sentences that are effective, memorable, and above all, convincing. The outcome? To stimulate questions while raising awareness beyond the Red Kettle. To become an influencer. Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? Do you have any interview experience?

So now I’m an Influencer? The majority have heard of The Salvation Army (98%) when asked, and most have a positive view. But, most equate us with bell ringers and Red Kettles at Christmastime. Few have any understanding of the significant role The Salvation Army plays in American society today. Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? Do you have any interview experience?

So now I’m an Influencer? We must emphasize our SCALE, our SCOPE and our SIGNIFICANCE as an organization that provides a “safety net” for the most vulnerable Americans.   Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? Do you have any interview experience?

So now I’m an Influencer? In other words, we must give depth of meaning to our Branding Promise of “Doing the most Good!”   Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? Do you have any interview experience?

KEY ELEMENTS for INFLUENCERS The Salvation Army is one of the largest and oldest providers of social services in the country. Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? Do you have any interview experience?

KEY ELEMENTS for INFLUENCERS Our faith-based mission calls us “To meet human need in His name without discrimination.” Meet & Greet – Name? Role with TSA? Do you have any interview experience?
