Presentation transcript:

Why Rome Fell On your sheet of paper, draw a circle with three arrows coming off the circle. At the end of each arrow, draw another circle. Draw the circles large enough to add a sentence or two of information inside. In the center circle, write the title: Why Rome Fell (200 CE– 476 CE)

First Circle: Political Confusion Rome’s government grew weak, but the army grew strong. Emperors paid soldiers for protection, but soldiers were not loyal.

Second Circle: Economic Weakness Invaders and disloyal soldiers attacked farms and stole traded goods. Rome created money that was not valuable, and the Empire lost economic power.

Third Circle: Invasions Germanic tribes, such as the Vandals and Visigoths, attacked Rome and its territories. These Germanic tribes were eventually victorious when a leader named Odoacer took over the Roman throne in 476 CE.

Question Compile the knowledge you just diagrammed into a short, coherent essay. Make sure your essay has an introduction (beginning), important details (middle), and conclusion (end). Start by answering the broad question of why Rome fell. Then provide specific reasons to your answer in the middle of your essay.
