You will create a digital timeline using ReadWriteThink! You must include your… High school career (this class, graduation, 1 or more date of importance) College attendance (name of college/university, major(s), length of attendance) Determine when you will take Praxis 1 and 2 (fall and spring of senior year in college) Date of receiving your Standard Professional I Certificate (fall after graduation) Date of hire, location of your first teaching position (school or district!) and what grade/subject! Start and finish and location of your Master’s Degree (must start WITHIN 5 YEARS of graduating college) For example: Walden University, 2014-2017 When you receive your Advanced Professional Certificate (when you finish Master’s) Retirement (usually 30-35 years after first hiring at around age 65) At least 2-3 other dates of importance (coaching, having kids, etc.)

Wednesday’s Task #2 You will get in a group of 3-4. You will read one of the “Opinions of Teachers” articles (either a, b, c, or d) You will create a poster with a: Title about the brief article (“Feelings of Administrators about Teachers”, for example) How your segment of society views teachers (2-3 items) Provide a data-based fact/results of a study/survey (using numbers) that gives information Whether you agree or disagree with how your segment of society views teachers and WHY you agree or disagree!! We will spend some time at the end analyzing more of TEACH. Tomorrow we will review for Friday’s quiz, discuss Thursday’s visitors, and look at the “Opinions about Teachers and Teaching” through a divide-and-conquer activity!

Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivations Remember… Intrinsic motivations are internal motivations that give psychic or spiritual satisfaction one receives from work. Intrinsic = Internal, from within Some intrinsic motivations for teachers are: Working with students (of any age) Knowing you are providing an important public service Developing and implementing lessons that are effective Being intellectually stimulated about new content and/or teaching practices Seeing other teachers, staff, and students succeed in learning or other areas.

Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivations Extrinsic rewards, however, are defined as outside, public attractions such as money, prestige, and/or power. Extrinsic= From outside (Remember exit, extra) Some extrinsic motivators for teachers include: Having a summer break A decent, middle-class salary with benefits Having power over others (grades, etc.) Time-wise it is less demanding than other careers Job security in tough times Getting gifts from students, parents, and discounts from businesses

Project time: Today you will pretend like you work in Human Resources at the Wicomico County Board of Education. You are having a difficult time finding qualified teachers to come teach in Salisbury, so you need to advertise with brochures at a local job fair. You need to give some good reasons for teachers to apply in your brochure.
