Madison’s Writing Process. Tips. Hints. Secrets. Enjoy.

Don’t fear white space. Or blank pages. Instead, embrace them. Consider this vast, empty, desolate, space not as a void, but as the first step in your pursuit of literary bliss.

Always be ready to write. Keep your pens handy and your fingers on the keyboard; you never know when you might have a brilliant thought or come up with the perfect introduction sentence.

Music is optional. It can sometimes help for power-writing (although not advised), but otherwise, try to find a comfortable space free of distractions and noises.

Wait. Stop. Plan. This step is necessary for essays and more structured forms of literature. Plant out your arguments, intro, and conclusion. Nothing too detailed, just enough to keep you on track.

Let the words come to you. If you’re writing a little less formal, such as a poem, it’s better to just let the words come to you. You get more unrefined and true results when you don’t plan what you’re going to write.

Writ e. Enough said.

Breaks are Necessary. Breaks are Necessary. If you don’t let your brain rest every once in a while, it will make it harder for you to write. This is basically a self-induced writer’s block, and it should be avoided at all costs. Breaks are Necessary.   If you don’t let your brain rest every once in a while it will make it harder for you to write. This is basically a self-induced writers block, and it should be avoided at all costs.

Ok, hold on a minute. When you finish a paragraph, read it over to check for awkward sentences, spelling, and grammatical errors. Aside from saving you from having to re-read your entire essay at once (which you should do anyways), it will give you motivation and ideas for your next paragraph – this ensures that the paragraphs flow.

Happy writing!
