Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair <stuart.kerry@philips.com> as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.11 Working Group. July 2006 doc.: IEEE 802.11-06/1047r0 July 2006 Abstract Agenda for TGn for discussion arising from PHY ad hoc on whether green field preamble should be mandatory. Jim Petranovich, Conexant Jim Petranovich, Conexant

July 2006 Background A large number of comments received in the response to LB84 proposed making green field preambles mandatory The PHY ad hoc decided by majority vote (between 50% and 75%) to recommend that TGn make capability of devices to process green field preamble mandatory Members of the PHY ad hoc voted for me as the chair of the ad hoc to bring this issue to TGn for resolution Jim Petranovich, Conexant

July 2006 Discussion Outline Two members of the PHY ad hoc volunteered give presentations, one in favor, one opposed I’ll toss a coin to see who goes first These presentations will be strictly limited to 15 minutes each TGn members are encouraged to read presentations and discuss with presentation authors offline After both presentations, there will be a period of open discussion strictly limited to fill the remaining alloted time (whatever is left of our 40 minutes) Conduct strawpoll Jim Petranovich, Conexant

July 2006 GF Strawpoll Shall the ability to process green field preambles be made mandatory? Yes No Abstain Jim Petranovich, Conexant
