National Association of Disability Practitioners (NADP) Established in 1999 - funded project became a Ltd company in 2003 has 1044 members across over 95% of HEIs non-profit making but entirely self-sufficient membership fees and conferences

Aims of accreditation external recognition for individual practitioners develop of knowledge, skills, attitudes and critical powers encourage critical reflections promote increased collaboration enhance quality standards in disability services to raise status and recognition

Eligibility All Individual Members of NADP are eligible It is hard to achieve without experience Neither Affiliate members nor non-members are eligible

Levels of accreditation NADP recognises that members are at different stages on their career paths and thus the NADP scheme comprises two levels: Accredited Member Senior Accredited Member All members must seek Accredited Member status in the first instance.

How to apply applicants register at any time payment of the fee makes application live allocated to a mentor for e-mail support Sept 1st/Feb 1st marking periods applicants choose when to submit

Submissions follows the HEA model of submissions of 500 - 750 words or equivalent in different categories plus a reflective journal categories comprise disabled students CPD disability society and education institutional policies and procedures quality assurance

Submissions Categories: Optional Mandatory Disabled students/staff Continuing Professional Development Reflective Journal Optional Disability society and education Institutional policies and procedures Quality Assurance

Submissions cont'd Accredited Member (AM) - 3 mandatory sections and one optional Senior Accredited Member (SAM) - 2 further sections not previously completed plus one open choice category must submit a new Reflective Journal

Accreditation Panel Panel Chair all submissions marked by both 1 Director and 1 external Chair acts as a moderator 2 x NADP Directors 2 x independent experts

Fees the cost for registering an application is £52 the same charge to progress to Senior Accredited Member (the costs are the same) reflects the costs to NADP for administration - the scheme is intended to be profit neutral

Development to implementation support for a Motion at NADP AGM Sub-Committee took on the work Prof Alan Hurst recruited as consultant Presentations and workshops with members at Annual Conference

Development to implementation a mini pilot and a full scale pilot completed lessons learnt and changes made launched on June 1st 2012 - first deadline was 1st September 2012 now there are 18 accredited members with 37 registered to submit

Further development promotion of the scheme to encourage take-up ongoing review and evaluation possible introduction of Fellowship development of a Service Accreditation Scheme

Difficulties experienced quality of submissions word lengths reflection versus narrative practice versus evidence time use of mentors retaining markers
