What is Title I and How Can I be Involved? Annual Parent Meeting Jenks East Elementary Fall 2018 1

Definition of Title I: Title I provides federal funding to schools to help students who are low achieving or most at risk of falling behind. Title I is allocated to schools based on the percentage of students receiving free/reduced lunch. Schools with a percentage of at least 40% are eligible for a schoolwide program. Jenks East Elementary operates as a schoolwide program. 2

Schoolwide means: The school uses Title I funds: To upgrade the entire educational program of the school to raise academic achievement for all students. To provide additional assistance for students experiencing difficulties in meeting the State’s performance targets. The school must collect and analyze data that affects student achievement. The school must develop a comprehensive site plan and annually review the effectiveness of the plan.

Focus Goals Increase the reading and math proficiency of all students, focusing on the needs of specific sub-groups, i.e., ELL, IEP, and Economically Disadvantaged. Teaching staff will be provided with professional development to assist them with meeting the learning needs of a diverse student population. The complete schoolwide plan is available at the Jenks East Elementary Main Office (Building C).

Title I Parent Notification Parent and Family Engagement Plan: The complete plan is located in Building C and on the school website. A printed copy is available upon request. School-Parent Compact: The school-parent compact is online for returning students and in the enrollment packet for new students. It is signed by the student, parent, and teacher.

Parent’s Right to Know Student Achievement: The results of State assessments are sent home to parents. Non-Highly Qualified Teachers: Schools are required to notify parents if their child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher that is not highly qualified.
