Be Political/Be Aware Work independently or with a partner. Prepare a presentation that includes power point slides and generate a class discussion adhering to the following guidelines. Choose a CURRENT social, political, or environmental issue or event The issue or event must have a pro and con side Determine your stand on the issue/event chosen Consider your audience and your purpose. How is this topic relevant to your classmates? Research your topic Gather facts from credible resources Magazines, newspapers, news shows, speeches, reliable websites An outline of your project is due the Monday prior to your presentation.

Identify your topic and state your position on the topic Presentation Format Identify your topic and state your position on the topic Objectively present the opposing side. Shift to your opinion and prove your point Disprove the opposing view through facts. Reinforce your opinion through additional facts. Bring closure to your presentation. THEN, Generate Class Discussion (Note: This is part of your presentation) Raise Questions; Engage your audience in discussion (REQUIRED) Time Frame Approximately ten minutes to present your work and a minimum of fifteen minutes for class discussion.
