Fugue (page 15) A composition in which the subject or theme is stated in a single voice and then repeated and developed in two or more other voices.

Fugue SUBJECT the theme of a fugue from the beginning until the second voice enters

Fugue VOICE each separate part or line of a fugue (usually 3-5) from the beginning count how many times you hear the subject enter

Fugue EXPOSITION the opening section of a fugue in which the subject is stated once in each voice from the beginning until each voice has played the subject once

Fugue EPISODE a section of a fugue where no voice is playing the subject

Fugue STRETTO a section of a fugue where the subjects overlap – usually at the very end of the piece
