Presentation transcript:

Luxilus cornutus – common shiner Scales on sides of body much taller than wide Medium sized shiner

Pimephales notatus – bluntnose minnow Crowded pre-dorsal scales!

Cyprinella spiloptera – spotfin shiner Pigmentation between rays in posterior portion of dorsal fin Body deepest around beginning of dosral fin, snout pointed (unlike Pimephales notatus)

Semotilus atromaculatus – creek chub “glorious spot” at anterior base of dorsal fin Body round in cross-section, medium sized Cyprinid

Campostoma anomalum – central stoneroller “tie-dye” pigmentation on dorsal fin Darker scales randomly distributed across body Round in cross section, medium sized Cyprinid

Notropis stramineus – sand shiner Equal signs across body Small shiner

Rhinichthys obtusus – western blacknose dace Small to medium Cyprinid Like Campostoma anomalum, has spotty pigmentation across body – but this species has dark lateral stripes and a more pointed snout

Cyprinus carpio- common carp Barbels, serrated spine in dorsal, big scales, often seen in Asian restaurants
