Morning Worship Friday 7th December Write a Christmas Card

Let the light of Christ shine in our lives Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Let the light of Christ shine in our lives

Receive Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them round your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favour and good repute in the sight of God and of people. From the book of Proverbs, chapter 3, verses 3 to 4

Engage The custom of sending Christmas cards was started in the UK in 1843 by Sir Henry Cole. He was a civil servant who had helped set-up the new 'Public Record Office' (now called the Post Office), where he was an Assistant Keeper, and wondered how it could be used more by ordinary people. As printing methods improved, Christmas cards became much more popular and were produced in large numbers from about 1860. In 1870 the cost of sending a post card, and also Christmas cards, dropped to half a penny. This meant even more people were able to send cards.

Engage Some discussion ideas … Why is it important to write personal messages to people? How do you think Christmas messages will change? Will posting a card die out? Activity suggestion … Design your own Christmas Card – think about the message that you would want to be printed inside. Video suggestion … 5 things you might not know about Christmas Cards (just miss off the last few seconds advert) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cnriT_x0rE

Respond Amen God, we give you thanks for the gift of friendship May we use this Christmas time to keep in touch with friends far away or those we don’t often get a chance to meet. Amen
