Evaluations Game DVDs Self-addressed stamped envelopes with a blank DVD are supplied in a packet to each school at the start of the season The address used is the Hillsborough County Schools Athletic Department HUDL Once game DVDs are received, they are loaded into an on line video archive – HUDL All officials have their own log in and password and can view their game films within days of the contest Some schools already use HUDL to share films and can send their footage electronically

HUDL Film Archive HL R LJ U

Evaluations Evaluation An evaluator views the game film for mechanics, positioning, penalties, rules enforcement, etc. Every official starts out with 100 points Points are deducted for improper mechanics, positioning, errors in rules enforcement, improper calls, missed calls, etc. (Page numbers are referenced from the book) The benefit of the doubt always goes to the official on the field Only major errors clearly evident on film are subject to point deductions Comments are often made with no points deducted

Evaluations Evaluation Grading Scale INCORRECT POSITION: (– 3) points per infraction. If the SAME infraction happens again the previous (– 3) points are erased and (– 6) points will be given for the second infraction. After the second infraction, no more points will be deducted for the SAME TYPE of infraction, but it should be noted in the game notes. INCORRECT MECHANIC: (– 3) points per infraction. If the SAME infraction happens again the previous (– 3) points are erased and (– 6) points will be given for the second infraction. After the second infraction, no more points will be deducted for the SAME TYPE of infraction, but it should be noted in the game notes. INCORRECT CALL and NOT CALLED: (– 3) points to (– 5) points depending on the severity or result of the play. INCORRECT ENFORCEMENT: (– 5) points to the whole crew

Evaluations Evaluation Report Once an evaluation is completed, a formal report is emailed to the crew Officials can then go to HUDL and review the plays receiving comments or deductions Challenges If an official feels points were deducted unjustly, that official can challenge the evaluation A board of 3 non-evaluation committee members reviews the disputed play(s) The official will either get his points back, or will be subjected to additional points taken off if the deduction is upheld (this stops endless nonsense challenges)

Evaluations Impact Teaching and learning exercise to improve one’s performance Helps direct training topics Improves consistency among crews Provides data for ranking those officials who are playoff eligible: 75% Evaluations 20% Meeting Attendance 3% Years of Experience 2% Test Scores
